The OCDC Parent Apprentice Program The OCDC Apprentice Program for Parents is designed for parents who are seeking a career in teaching. Parents spend time as an apprentice in the Head Start classroom and at the center. They learn skills related to their choice of career as temporary employees Goals:
- Increase the work force of highly trained early childhood professionals in the state through apprenticeships for parents
- Assist parents in their goals towards self sufficiency and a career of their choice.

Major Outcomes
- All apprentices hired Apprentices reported improved parenting skills
- Increased positive relationships between management and parents
- Father involvement increased Mentor teachers demonstrated leadership
- Families spent more time at the centers and increased participation on local committees
- Participation in parent events increased
- Dads visited the centers to learn about their wife's work and attended more parent events
- Attendance in male involvement programs increased
