Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a parent involvement, school readiness program that helps parents prepare their three, four, and five year old children for success in school and beyond.
HIPPY helps parents empower themselves as their children’s first teacher by giving them the tools, skills and confidence they need to work with their children in the home. The program is designed to bring families, organizations and communities together and remove any barriers to participation that may include limited financial resources or lack of education.
All HIPPY programs follow the HIPPY model: a developmentally appropriate curriculum, with role play as the method of teaching, staffed by home visitors from the community, supervised by a professional coordinator and with home visits interspersed with group meetings as the delivery methods. A model HIPPY site serves up to 180 children with one coordinator and 12-18 part-time home visitors.
Each of the four features of the HIPPY model was chosen and developed in a certain way to allow participation from parents who might otherwise not get involved with their children’s education. Although HIPPY is for any parent who wants educational enrichment for his/her child, the HIPPY model was designed to remove barriers to participation, due to lack of education, poverty, social isolation and other issues.

El programa Instrucción en el Hogar por Padres de Niños Preescolares (HIPPY, por sus siglas en Inglés) es un programa de participación que ayuda a los padres a preparar a sus niños de tres, cuatro y cinco años de edad para tener éxito en la escuela y más allá.
HIPPY ayuda a los padres a adquirir seguridad en sí mismos como primeros maestros de sus hijos dándoles las herramientas y las habilidades para trabajar con sus hijos en el hogar. El programa está diseñado para traer juntos a la familia, las organizaciones y las comunidades y remover cualquier barrera para la participación que quizá pueda ser a causa de recursos de finanzas limitados o la falta de preparación escolar.
Todos los programas HIPPPY siguen el modelo HIPPY: currículo apropiado al desarrollo con un método de enseñanza de interpretación de diferentes roles, con trabajadores de la comunidad como visitantes al hogar, supervisados por un coordinador profesional y con visitas al hogar combinadas con reuniones de grupo. El modelo HIPPY sirve hasta 180 niños con un coordinador y 12-18 visitantes al hogar de tiempo parcial.
Cada una de las cuatro características del modelo HIPPY fue seleccionada y desarrollada de cierta forma para permitir la participación de los padres que de otra manera no estuvieran involucrados en la educación de sus hijos. Aún cuando HIPPY es para cualquier padre que desea enriquecimiento educativo para su hijo/a, el modelo HIPPY fue diseñado para remover las barreras para la participación debido a la falta de educación, la pobreza, aislamiento social y otras situaciones.
